Classic Mustangs, Colorado Mountains, Carne Asada, and a deep passion for Celina are just part of who Chuck Hansen is. He's also running for Celina, Texas School Board. But what else is there to Chuck Hansen? Listen to this episode and find out even more about the man behind the candidate.
Chuck was kind enough to sit down with me, share some funny stories, and provide a little insight into his world. Oh, and wait until you learn what Chuck Hansen wishes he could drive. Here's a hint: It's not a classic Mustang!
Ron Lyons (00:00):
Welcome to CelinaRadio.com recorded right here in Celina, Texas, a quiet little dusty sleepy town that has absolutely nothing going on guys. I am so totally kidding about, of course, this is Texas and we have everything going on here. Now. I'm Ron Lyons. This is CelinaRadio.com and we intend to have a good time. So put on your seatbelt and let's get started. Hey guys. Welcome to CelinaRadio.com. I'm Ron Lyons and today joining us on the show is Chuck Hansen. Chuck is running for school board with Celina I S D and E like seven other candidates before was willing to sit down and kind of give us a bit of insight into who he is behind the scenes. So sit back, relax, and let's get started with Chuck Hansen. All right, guys. I am here with Chuck Hansen and Chuck Hansen is a very busy man of these days. Chuck, what do you have going on? That's got you so busy right now.
Chuck Hansen (01:27):
Well, I'm glad you asked. I'm actually running for school board place one. I'm very excited. I've been on the board a little over 11 years and this is actually the first time I've ever run a post. So first time I've been through the election process, I've learned a lot and really enjoying it. And so that's kind of, what's taken up a lot of my time right now.
Ron Lyons (01:44):
So gimme an idea. I I've asked almost everybody this so far. If you could rate the experience between a one and a 10, now that you are running opposed, 10 being awesome. One being, I don't think I'm ever gonna do this again, but what, what do you rate it?
Chuck Hansen (01:57):
Oh, it'd be, it'd be close to 10. Probably like an eight, eight and a half. I mean, I've really enjoyed it. I'm learning a lot of stuff. It hadn't been miserable, you know, you don't have a lot of negative stuff. So eight and a half final answer,
Ron Lyons (02:08):
Eight and a half. I like that. And so it's, so it's been a good experience and it's worth it because it's Celina, right. And Celina ISD, something that obviously you're very passionate about. We're gonna get into all of that. The one thing that we're not gonna do is get into any of your platform or, or anything like that. But tell me, do you have anything that you want to share with audience that they can go and maybe learn more about you or maybe reach out to you directly?
Chuck Hansen (02:33):
Sure. I'm, I'm kind of old school. So the only thing I really am on is Facebook and I do have a post out there that tells a little bit about who I am, what I am, what I believe and a little bit about what drives my, my decision making. So I'll welcome. You just to just search for Chuck Hanson, Celina. I'm out there as well as I've got a video out there and got that as well. If you wanna call me, I've got a cell phone. It works may
not answer cuz I get somebody spam calls. So leave me a message. I'll return your phone call, but the number's (214) 566-2295. Gimme ring.
Ron Lyons (03:05):
So, so tell me other than being the political candidate, if you don't mind sharing, what, what do you, what do you do for a living what's what do you do in your normal life?
Chuck Hansen (03:14):
Well, I'm a normal life is I've got two kids. They're adult kids, but I like to spend a little bit of time with them. I do for living is I'm an accountant, been an accountant all my life. I was really good with numbers, probably wouldn't have gotten into college, had it not been for numbers back when the SAT was just math and English, English was not an impressive score, but thankfully math was good enough to get me there. And so I've been an account. I work for a company called king aerospace out Addison, just controller count being as a lot of people have done me.
Ron Lyons (03:39):
And, and as of right now, we're, we're very, very close to election dates coming up.
When is election day?
Chuck Hansen (03:45):
It's coming up hot. It's coming this Saturday. It'll be from seven to seven at Colin
college. May 7th. So get out both
Ron Lyons (03:52):
May 7th. Yes, sir. It's we are literally right on top of that. So I, I bet in the back of
your mind, you're kind of glad that it's almost over, am I right?
Chuck Hansen (04:00):
You are very right. <Laugh>
Ron Lyons (04:02):
Yes, sir. It's it's just one of those things I've run for office and I know how you feel. It's it's stressful, but again, it's worth it. So how long have you lived in the Celina area?
Chuck Hansen (04:13):
We've moved here in 2007. So what does that make for 15 years? This summer?
Ron Lyons (04:17):
So you've been here for some time. And what do you think so far? We we'll get in a little bit to, to about the growth and stuff like that, but, but did you ever see this coming all of this growth and stuff? Did you, did you see that a long time ago? Because I got here in 93. I didn't see it.
Chuck Hansen (04:32):
Yeah. You know, I, I think I did see it. I know that when I moved here, my little simple prayer to God was Lord, just keep it small to my kids graduated high school and he honored prayer. And my LA my last kid, my daughter graduated in 17. So it was still relatively small, a wonderful system. But yeah, I, I saw the growth. I saw the people. But man, over the, I honestly, if you'd asked me three years ago, did I think it'd be doing what's happening right now with all the rooftop and all the subdivisions and all the craziness? I don't think I would've seen it growing quite the it fast, but I knew it would
Ron Lyons (05:02):
Grow. So you're doing the, the ISD thing you're doing the school board. Could you
ever see a Chuck Hansen running for city council down the road? Maybe?
Chuck Hansen (05:12):
Maybe I'm not, I'm not a lifetime politician. I'm just somebody who has a passion for Celina. If I ever saw something that I felt like the city was going in a direction, I didn't like, and I wanted to make a change. I'd absolutely be open to that. If that's some God opens I'd, I'd certainly do
Ron Lyons (05:26):
It. We've been talking to all the candidates so far. And one of the things that I like to ask, and one of the things I'm getting a lot of good feedback on is what you like to do in Celina. Like where do you like to go? What places do you like to hang out? What kind of things do you like to do around town? So share with us just a little bit about some of your favorite places or things to do in Celina.
Chuck Hansen (05:47):
Well, I mean, I love going downtown. They got some great restaurants, Papa Gaos tenders. You know, I've really been kind of pumped over the last couple years when they opened the Pelican and opened roller. I think it's called roller town. You know, some local bars have been a lot of fun just to kind of go hang out there. I love all the festivals. We had Cajun festivals coming up. Man, they got a lot of cool things that are going on. And even the movie nights on the square, I'll go to those sometimes. So it's, it's always got something going on. It's got forgot where when and where you wanna go.
Ron Lyons (06:18):
So a lot of people think, well, it's Celina. There can't be that much up there, but there is a life and there's an energy here. And here's what I find is that when people actually get in here and they get a little sampling of that, they're addicted.
Chuck Hansen (06:31): Great.
Ron Lyons (06:32):
So, so somebody said one time it was drinking the Kool-Aid would you say you've
drank the Sal to Koolaid?
Chuck Hansen (06:37):
Oh yes sir. Yeah, absolutely. I drank it and I serve it and I've got a gallon of it in my
refrigerators for all my friends.
Ron Lyons (06:44):
Yes, sir. <Laugh> that's awesome. I like that. And it just came into my mind. I don't know why this just popped in my head, but it I'm envisioning actual Koolaid. It's gotta be orange, right? It
Chuck Hansen (06:53):
Is. Oh, absolutely. Yes, sir.
Ron Lyons (06:55):
It's gotta be orange. Everything in Celina is orange. So speaking of Kool-Aid name a restaurant for me that you like to go to and tell me one of your favorite things to eat there.
Chuck Hansen (07:07):
Well locally, I, I enjoy going to Andrias up in gunner. That's a good time and they've
got good pizza, but here in slide it's got my Toasted Walnut thing. Toasted
Ron Lyons (07:18): Walnut.
Chuck Hansen (07:18):
Yes. Right. And they're Hamburg, the Wal burger that's.
Ron Lyons (07:22):
Okay. So I literally had that for the first time there the other day, I had not ordered that because there's so many other kind of eclectic things on the menu, things that, you know, just get everywhere, like Pimento cheese dip and yes, sir.
Ron Lyons (07:35):
Four cheese or whatever it is, grilled cheese. There's so many things to try. Burger seemed pretty basic to me. So I that's the last thing. Well, I guess I've gone enough times now that I actually got to do the burger and let me tell you, it was amazing
Chuck Hansen (07:48):
To die for. You're going back for it. I can see the look in your eyes.
Ron Lyons (07:51):
Do I look like a guy that misses too many burgers? No, I do not. I don't either. So yeah. No, that's, that's fantastic. Any of other favorite restaurants you like to go and any other favorite items you like to get?
Chuck Hansen (08:02):
Yeah, Papa, gees. I love their, I think it, I'm not very good with name. I think CARNA salt. It's like a, a skirt steak thing. Delicious chip and sauce are good. Margaritas are quite tasty. I can say that on the radio.
Ron Lyons (08:14):
No, you can a hundred percent say that. We, we literally just discovered recently a
mango margarita there. Have you had the mango margarita there? Yes,
Chuck Hansen (08:23):
Sir. More than one. It's very good. Yes.
Ron Lyons (08:26):
<Laugh> and it's, it's. It's awesome. It's really, really good. And, and what's so cool about that is you can go to a place like Papas or one of those places, maybe loosies mm-hmm <affirmative> and then if you go at the right time, you can step out on a square there's music playing on the square and, and it, it just doesn't stop. It doesn't stop. When you walk outta the restaurant, it's, it's, it's a whole experience in Celina, isn't it?
Chuck Hansen (08:48):
It is. Yep. And sometimes I get caught up in the music and thank my fiance and we'll
go dance around the square. They're a little too step.
Ron Lyons (08:56):
Absolutely. My daughter loves to go there and do cartwheels in the square. And so that, that's kind of like a thing is take me to the square so I can do gymnastics. It's the exact same thing she could do in the front yard, but we've gotta go to the square.
Chuck Hansen (09:06):
You'll never see me doing cartwheels. I share you.
Ron Lyons (09:09):
Well, I'm gonna I'm I am right there in line with you and I'm not gonna be doing that either. I'm, I'm afraid be in a lot of trouble now, but speaking of the music, they play the square. It tends to be a lot of country music. What kind of music do you like?
Chuck Hansen (09:22):
Well country, I've got 96, 3 99, 5 on my radio station. I love the new stuff. I love the old stuff, old country growing up. I was into journey, stick, stuff like that. But right now it's, it's primarily country.
Ron Lyons (09:35):
So what is it that happens? Because my dad did that. My dad was all, he, he was into the, you know, the, the, the rock that they had back in, you know, fats, domino mm- hmm <affirmative>, Elvis Presley and that sort of thing. But he turned into hardcore country and he said, and I liked all the journey and stuff. He said, you're gonna do the same thing. <Laugh> you're gonna love country music when you get older too. Why, why do we do that?
Chuck Hansen (09:57):
You know, that's a great question. What I think, why I think, I, I like the words. There's a message. And I think about, you know, there's a song that I heard coming home today, and again, I'm horrible with artists or names. So it talks about until you can't, and it, it is this song about going fishing with your dad until you can't, but ring on the finger of the girl, you've been great and listening to high school till you can't, it's just about taking that opportunity in life and not missing it. And so I think a lot of country songs, if you, if you get outside of the beat and you actually listen to the words, there's kind of a cool message. And so I guess that's why I like it. I'm kind of kinda weird that way.
Ron Lyons (10:33):
No, I think you're right. I think you're onto something. And that helps me understand maybe why I like it so much. And, and the other side of that is I have such a dislike for some of the stuff that's out there right now that they, you know, the other kinds of music and it doesn't really matter what it is. I'm just not a fan of anything else they're really doing right now. And, and I like classic country. Do you like any classic country? Oh
Chuck Hansen (10:53):
Yeah. Like George Jones hundred.
Ron Lyons (10:56):
And now you're talking my Al
Chuck Hansen (10:57):
Yes, sir. Yeah. My, as a matter of fact, he asked my son he's 27 years old. The stuff today is not real country. That we, what we just talked about. That's the only real country to him. He's got playlists. Yeah, no, I love that stuff.
Ron Lyons (11:09):
Give me, gimme an idea. What does Chuck Hansen do for fun? What do you do? What, do you have any hobbies? He had anything that you like to do to relax or anything like, like that?
Chuck Hansen (11:18):
Well, of course you can kinda look around since you're out here at the house, I've got a lot of yard work have, do that takes a lot of time during the summer. I love hanging out. If I can get it all caught up, love, hanging out with the pool. I play golf. I do a little bit of fishing, a little bit of traveling, and then if I can get it all kind of accomplished, I just sit down and read. I can do that. And you know, I, I can just pretty much kill the whole day doing nothing, but just maybe pulling up Netflix and watching a couple moves.
Ron Lyons (11:43):
That sounds good. That's that's actually after, and especially with everything going on right now, mm-hmm, <affirmative>, it's, it's probably is just gold to sit down and basically almost do nothing.
Chuck Hansen (11:53):
Yeah. I'm good at that. It's a gift. God, God bless me in that area. <Laugh>
Ron Lyons (11:57):
I think you bless you and I both. So gimme an idea. Do you have a favorite talking
about Netflix? Do you have a favorite move here? TV show,
Chuck Hansen (12:05):
You know, I've watched Ozark, I've watched some really kind of bizarre stuff. I'm looking. If you got some ideas, I like to kind of get caught up cuz I'm through Ozark. I've been through a better call Saul. The one that was before that with the gosh, I can't remember.
Ron Lyons (12:19):
And I know what you're talking about
Chuck Hansen (12:20):
A bad something breaking break, breaking bad. Yeah. I watch some of that, that word
Ron Lyons (12:23):
Stuff. Have you done Yellowstone yet?
Chuck Hansen (12:26):
Oh yes sir. Yeah. I love Yellowstone.
Ron Lyons (12:27):
I can't wait. So, so, so on Yellowstone, do you have a favorite character between, so you've got Costner and then you've got rip is so cool. All right. That is 100% always the answer. Oh, is
Chuck Hansen (12:39):
It? It is. I just figured that'd be popular with the females, but not rip, rip bad. He's
awesome.
Ron Lyons (12:44):
<Laugh> it is literally every time I ask that question and I haven't done it on any of these podcasts, you're the first person I ask, but every time I ask it out in the, in the real world, that's what everyone says.
Chuck Hansen (12:57): He's just, he's just cool.
Ron Lyons (12:58): He's just cool.
Chuck Hansen (12:59):
That's the, he's who I wanna be when I grow up
Ron Lyons (13:00):
A hundred percent. Right. He's he's he's ever man's dream if we could just be that. Right. So, and probably in our own minds, we are a little bit of that or at least we like to think so, but talking about characters and stuff like that, if you could find somebody in history that you would like to sit down with and maybe have a cup of coffee, does anybody come to mind that you'd love to sit down with and have a little discussion?
Chuck Hansen (13:26):
Well, I mean, I guess you could, I mean, I could go Bible stuff. You can go back old Testa and do Testament and probably, you know, I, I was having a discussion with the buddy of mine a couple days ago and we were talking about Judas. I think I'd like to have a cup of coffee and just get in his head, you know, cuz he had a per perspective on what he thought Judas was doing in his betrayal of Christ. I had my own perspective. We both disagreed or agreed on whether he was in heaven or not. So I I'd love to exactly what he was thinking. I'd kinda like, know if I was right and go back to my buddy and say I kill it. And then of course, if he was right, I'd never did
Ron Lyons (14:01):
It. Of course he wouldn't. No, no sir. Why, why would you do that? So yeah. Yeah. Give me an idea. So, so that's, that's a very interesting yeah. Answer and I've never thought about that. That that would be a very interesting conversation. Tell me where in Celina would you take him?
Chuck Hansen (14:18):
Where would I take him? I'd probably have to go to like the Pelican or roller tower. I
could have a cold one.
Ron Lyons (14:23):
You're saying Pelican and I think it's penguin.
Chuck Hansen (14:26):
Penguin. You're right. I'm sorry.
Ron Lyons (14:28):
Penguin. Yeah. Penguin. Because I was, I was at first when you were saying that and I
was like, oh, I'm missing out on
Chuck Hansen (14:33):
This plate. I think that all the time I
Ron Lyons (14:35):
Do exact same thing. So, but I, but okay. Yes. So, so wooden pen where you take him
to wooden penguin. Yeah. All right.
Chuck Hansen (14:42):
Yeah. I'd sit out there in one of those tables and I'd offer to buy him a cold beverage
and we'd just sit there and I'd getting his head man.
Ron Lyons (14:48):
So you're not gonna take him to Papas and get a, a mango margarita with Judas
<laugh> well,
Chuck Hansen (14:54):
I, you know, I, I could, I could be open that, I
Ron Lyons (14:56):
Guess it, it, it might, it might make the answers come just a little bit easier. Give me an idea now, obviously we're talking about history or people from history and stuff like that. If you could go back in history, if you could go back to, I've been, I've been saying 17, 18 year old self, somewhere around in there and either give yourself some advice or just say something to yourself. What, what might Chuck Hansen now say to Chuck Hansen then?
Chuck Hansen (15:26):
I'm 18, I'm 18. I'd say you're gonna be real stupid over the next five years to your life, but you will get over it. <Laugh> and I'd probably say longer term learn to get outside of your comfort zone. You know, I've found that I spend a lot of time kind of
in my comfort zone. I, I I'm very conservative and doing some things. And then over the last 10 years, I've, I've kind of got outside of it and, and I really enjoyed the challenges this brought and just it's been a lot of fun. So I would encourage myself at an earlier stage alive to get outside of my comfort zone.
Ron Lyons (15:59):
What are some things that you would have maybe done back at 18, 19, 20, 20, 1 years
old that you didn't do?
Chuck Hansen (16:08):
Well, I was in college back then. So it probably would've been more like outside of, I would've traveled more. I would've said, you know what? Cause I I'm, I'm historically kind of cheap. And so that's why I didn't didn't travel a whole lot. I just wanted to save my money, but I would challenge myself cuz memories that I've gotten when I have started traveling, been to Alaska, been Hawaii, been really blessed with the opportunity to, to just see some things that are really cool. And those memories are things that I'll cherish for or ever. And I missed out on about 10 or 15 years because I was now, I, I don't have the money for it. It doesn't make sense. I'd rather put money down on a card, da, da, da, and you got the rest of your life to pay for that stuff. So make some memories, spend some money, get outside your box and have some fun 18 year old Chuck Hansel.
Ron Lyons (16:49):
Is that the kind of advice that you have given to your own kids?
Chuck Hansen (16:53):
No, they can't afford it. They need to <laugh>
Ron Lyons (16:56):
Yes. They don't travel. Do not do not travel.
Chuck Hansen (16:59):
No I've told my kids. I said, look, both of 'em are graduate. My daughter graduates from college here in a couple weeks and I've said you got a college degree, but do what you love. God's given you a gift and a passion for something in life. If you wanna be a garbage man and I'm, oh, nobody takes offense to that. But whatever you want to do, be passionate about it, enjoy it. I'd rather you go to a job and enjoy what you're doing. I don't care if you make, just make enough money to stay outta the house <laugh> but enjoy yourself and be happy. And that's kind of the advice I've given my
Ron Lyons (17:31):
Kids. So you're helping me out. I've got a nine year old right now and I'm making notes, mental notes here so that, you know, in a few years,
Chuck Hansen (17:38): Buddy, about
Ron Lyons (17:39):
What's worth that's good. Give me, give me an idea of your favorite subject back in
school.
Chuck Hansen (17:44):
Math. Absolutely. I was in advanced math and like I said, if the admit for math, I
don't know that I'd gotten into Baylor.
Ron Lyons (17:50):
So what is it about your brain and my brain that are wired so differently? Because I
literally just, you just say the word algebra and I wanna run,
Chuck Hansen (17:59):
You know I guess it's just the way God makes two people. And, and I was talking to a buddy one time. I said, so if you were given an equation, third, 13 times 11, what would you do? And, and he's talking to me said, well, I'd take 13, 11, I'd go three, one, carry my, all this kind of, and he's doing how we learn how to do it. And I'd go see, I'd take 13 times 10, 1 30 plus 13 and be 1 43. And so my brain works breaking down the, the math problems into kind of parameters. I don't know how you would do that. How we,
Ron Lyons (18:29):
I would just sit there with a puzzle, look on my face.
Chuck Hansen (18:31):
I'd just give a phone out and think 13 down or whatever it is.
Ron Lyons (18:34):
<Laugh> I would, I would say, this is why I did law enforcement because I, and I'm not a doctor because I'm not good at math. So I, I didn't have to count, you know, too much in, in the career path I took. But if you, if you weren't being an accountant, what other thing could you see yourself doing? Or what other dream job might you have if, if accounting wasn't on the table for you?
Chuck Hansen (18:56):
Well, I mean, if I was gifted enough to play golf, I'd love to be a professional golfer. I'd love to be on the seniors tour. I just, I, I love playing golf. I'm just not near good enough to do that for 11. So that's why I'm an accountant.
Ron Lyons (19:07):
Well, that makes sense. But you can still do it for fun, right?
Chuck Hansen (19:10):
I can. Yeah. And I, I do try and get out as often as I can, my son and I like to play. And
Ron Lyons (19:15):
Where, where do you like to go? Whenever you do golf,
Chuck Hansen (19:17):
I'll go up to gunner. I'll go up to the bridges and play up there. And I was really pumped when I was talking to a guy the other day and this new subdivision they're building down here. They're gonna build 18 hole golf course.
Ron Lyons (19:27): Well,
Chuck Hansen (19:27):
Yeah. So that's gonna be a lot closer, so
Ron Lyons (19:29): Yeah, that's great.
Chuck Hansen (19:30):
But then I just get out here and I'll hit my seven iron as far as I can and hope I don't
break a window. <Laugh>
Ron Lyons (19:36):
So are, are you the, are you the kind of guy that can sit down on a Saturday or Sunday? I don't even remember what day it is that they do so much of it, but can you, can you watch golf on TV
Chuck Hansen (19:44): All day long? Yes, sir.
Ron Lyons (19:46):
Okay. All right. So, so I'm learning, we've got, we've got a lot of things in common. We've certain things that aren't in common and, and I would literally back in the day, turn on golf so that I could take a nap. Okay. So, and,
Chuck Hansen (19:58):
And that wouldn't doze off occasionally, but I, I could watch it all day.
Ron Lyons (20:01):
Yeah. And I am terrible actually playing golf. I mean, so, so bad that I literally turn it down a hundred percent. Like I never go.
Chuck Hansen (20:08): Oh, okay.
Ron Lyons (20:09):
So, so that's, that's, that's just how bad at it is. You know, one of the things that a lot of people, well, I've asked a lot of people and every once in a while I've gotten a yes, mostly I've gotten nos, but loosies does karaoke, have you ever done that there?
Chuck Hansen (20:25):
I have not ever done that there now. I've never, I've done karaoke maybe twice in my
life.
Ron Lyons (20:30):
And, and what was the reason for that?
Chuck Hansen (20:33): It was
Ron Lyons (20:34): <Laugh> okay. Well,
Chuck Hansen (20:36):
Paul Grant and Marrus and UHS probably a little bit too much. And, and, you know, I was challenged by somebody and it wasn't, it wasn't that good. I mean, I, I'm afraid, I love listening to people seeing, I love people that, that have the talent. I, I can, I can get close to the tune. I can somewhat hold a tone, but yeah. I just, I, yeah, I don't think I would.
Ron Lyons (20:57):
I understand. So, so definitely not, not not gonna find you on the playlist up at loo
season, probably not time soon. What is your biggest pet peeve?
Chuck Hansen (21:08):
Biggest pet peeve would be traffic related. And it's, it's the guy that when you see the construction zone coming up and he's, he's driving on the left hand side and he's going over the shoulder so that he can get all the way up in the front, cut everybody off because his time is so important. He can't wait in the, with the rest of
Ron Lyons (21:28):
Us. I, I do not know what you drive, but if, and I'm just gonna ask you, if you could
drive anything, what would you drive? Chuck Hansen (21:36):
<Laugh> I could drive anything. What would I drive? I would drive a tank or some large assault vehicle.
Ron Lyons (21:42):
You're pretty serious about this, this, this road where you say you used to run over?
Well,
Chuck Hansen (21:47):
No, I don't. I wouldn't. I just would like to have the ability to run over something. I don't know if I'd actually do it. It would just be nice to know that I could run right over the top of somebody and it wouldn't damage my vehicle. Absolutely.
Ron Lyons (21:59):
On the sweet thought. Absolutely. would you consider yourself an introvert or an
extrovert?
Chuck Hansen (22:06):
I would say I'm be kind of a common, you put me in a room of people that I don't know, introvert, you know, I, I'm not familiar with people. You put me in a, a group of folks that I'm, I'm familiar with the Sunday school class, a party or, or something like that. I'm very, very comfortable. I'm an extrovert then, but I'm not bold enough that, yeah. I just, if, if I don't know, 'em, I'm kind of hiding in the corner next to the punch bowl.
Ron Lyons (22:32):
We, we, we briefly talked about favorite movies and TV shows and we, we kind of got
more on TV shows. I I'm real curious. Do you have a favorite movie?
Chuck Hansen (22:41):
Well, I I'll say that there's one movie. I watch at least four times a year and that's elf.
Ron Lyons (22:46): Oh, wow.
Chuck Hansen (22:47):
At Christmas. I always watch it. And it's just, I can't tell you why than just makes me
happy.
Ron Lyons (22:52):
Okay. You know what, that's a really, really good reason to do something. I like that. That's I'm trying to think of, yeah. I've probably seen it about 40 times, so yeah. It's classic. I'm with you on that favorite color?
Chuck Hansen (23:07):
Favorite color? I would be the color. I, my 68 Mustang when I first got, it was a midnight blue and it was just, just gorgeous. Had little sparkles in it and cool racing stripes and not sure why it's, it's just always been one of my favorite
Ron Lyons (23:21):
Colors. Now, do you still have that car?
Chuck Hansen (23:23):
No, I don't. No I don't. Yeah. Yeah. Is it? It's an idiot kid. I, I, I put the mags wheels on it. I, I discarded everything of value on it when I was 17 years old to make it cool. Yep. And then it wasn't worth anything.
Ron Lyons (23:37):
<Laugh> tell me this. If you could have your old Mustang back, let's say you found
mm-hmm, <affirmative> a killer deal on your actual Mustang. Would you
Chuck Hansen (23:45):
Buy it? Absolutely. Absolutely. Well, I, you know, the funny thing is I could understand that car, if it didn't crank over, I knew how to look at a carburetor. I knew how to, I mean, I, I worked on that thing. I replaced timing belt today. You, you got these Silicon chips that I wouldn't even know where to begin. So that's what I'd to be able to drive something that I actually understood.
Ron Lyons (24:07):
<Laugh> let me, I'm gonna ask you a question. I haven't asked anybody else yet. Well, first of all, I have to preface it with a different question. What year did you graduate? High school?
Chuck Hansen (24:16): 83, 83.
Ron Lyons (24:17):
So we're right there. Close together. This is gonna sound so off the wall, but I promised myself I was gonna do this to the very last per you're the last person? Yes. Okay. Wrestling back in the day. Was it real or was it fake? I
Chuck Hansen (24:32):
Did. It was fake, but my grandfather he, he died knowing in his heart. It was real, he,
oh yeah. But it was fake. Even as a kid, I could see it.
Ron Lyons (24:41):
Talk to me about Celina. We talked about how fast it's growing and all that stuff. Are
you a fan of everything growing or you, what do you think about it? Chuck Hansen (24:49):
Well, I mean, growth is, is inevitable. It's coming this way. What kind of my platform, and I don't know if I can share it here, but I
Ron Lyons (24:58):
Will. Yeah, absolutely. Please
Chuck Hansen (24:59):
Out here is, I, I really believe that Celina, when I moved here, we had a sign, right. Just south of the shell station that said faith, family football. If you've been around a while, you probably remember that sign. And that, that struck, struck me. And it's like, you know, this is a community that's founded in faith, deep faith. And that was very impressive to me. And that's something that I wanna make sure that as this community grows and we go from 20,000 to 40, to a hundred thousand, it can still be a faith based community. And that's very important to me. And so I'd love to be able to see. And I even felt like our city also has the same underlying foundation, if you will. So that's important, you know, I it's gonna grow. Am I excited? I, I think I mentioned earlier, I'm excited about the golf course. So there are things that I'm excited. There's gonna be some new retail. There's gonna be a lot of fun, fun things.
Ron Lyons (25:46):
If, if Celina wasn't an option for you, if Celina just, let's just say it didn't even exist for some reason, and you could live anywhere else in the world. Where would that be?
Chuck Hansen (25:56):
Around the whole world? Well, I mean, I love the mountains. I love Colorado. So it'd be, if it wouldn't be, if I had an option in the whole world, I guess I'd look at, and I mentioned I was cheap. So what's most affordable for place with mountains that I could live in, but Colorado's beautiful. I love the mountains. I love the way the sun rises and the way the sun sets and the way. And there's something about God's presence in the mountains that is, is different than anything I've ever felt. So it'd be there.
Ron Lyons (26:24):
I, I think you might be the third person. That's mentioned something similar and it's, it's gotten me so interested now that I, I want to go myself. I, I, I'm not typically a mountain person. I'm a, I'm a beach person. Okay. So, so between you and maybe these other two, you know, interviews I've done, I think I might just put that on my list. So is there anywhere in particular that you would recommend a person goes in, in Colorado or somewhere?
Chuck Hansen (26:50):
Colorado Springs is Gor. You know, they've got the air force academy up there and that whole area is up there. And any of the ski resorts, just look for a mountain and drive as far up as you can get out. Not
Ron Lyons (27:02): Like that
Chuck Hansen (27:03):
Out. You can't miss it, man.
Ron Lyons (27:04):
Yeah. It's kinda like God's painted it all over. So, so there it is. Mm-Hmm
<affirmative> so you don't, you don't have to go find it. It's it's right
Chuck Hansen (27:11):
There. You'll bring it to you. Just get out there.
Ron Lyons (27:12):
I like it. So, so I'm gonna wrap it up with this and it's the same thing that I've been asking almost everybody. And that is why, why Celina? Right, right now, what do, what do you love about CEL?
Chuck Hansen (27:24):
Yeah. As I mentioned earlier, it's that faith foundation. I, I love the, I love the small town feel, even though it's growing the one high school, the football games, the, you know, I love that when I came out here and we still do it, we had the run through signs that are Bible versus there's just that, you know, we pray before pep rallies. There's just that incredible. I told of people, it was a, I told my parents when I moved out here, said this is a private school feeling for a tuition I can afford.
Ron Lyons (27:50):
<Laugh> I like that. I like that. That's that's absolutely right. So that's what
Chuck Hansen (27:53): I love about
Ron Lyons (27:54):
The community. So you have a very strong passion for Celina, obviously a person doesn't have to sit any longer than I've sat with you to get that. And I appreciate you sharing that passion with me, giving us a bit of insight into your life. And let me ask you this. Would you come back on the show in the future and let's talk about something, not political at all. Maybe old cars, maybe mountains, maybe mango margaritas.
Chuck Hansen (28:19):
Okay. Absolutely. Yeah. If you're, if you're that desperate to get some on your show, brother, I, you call me up. We'll make
Ron Lyons (28:25):
I, I need good people and you're good people. So I
Chuck Hansen (28:28):
Appreciate it. I'd be happy to do it.
Ron Lyons (28:32):
All right, guys. That is Chuck Hansen and Chuck, thank you so very much for being on the show. And I just want to take a moment and say, thank you to all of our guests. There have been eight candidates now on Celina, radio.com and each and every one of them are good people. They've got Celina in their heart and they were kind enough to come on and share a little bit of their private life with you. And I, and you know what? This is also a good opportunity to say to you. You think you're a good fit to on CelinaRadio.com go down to the very bottom of the page, down in the footer section. And there's a link that says register is a guest. And that doesn't mean that every single person is always gonna get approved. And certainly it doesn't mean the scheduling's gonna work, work out now, but it may work out later.
Ron Lyons (29:28):
But if you feel like you've got something to share, go down to that link on the bottom of the page, click on it and fill out the form and then we'll be in contact. And if there's any way possible that we can work you into the show, we'll certainly do it. And guys tell everybody else about Solana, radio.com. Share it on your social media. Tell everybody we're out here. We're doing some amazing things. The show has just taken off like crazy. The statistics are incredible, and that is thanks to you. The listener. So guys just like always, I'm gonna wrap it up right there. We've got some great things coming up. We've got some fantastic guests. We've got some event coverage coming up. It's we're just gonna have fun. Summer's coming up. We're living in a blessed time in a blessed city. And it's just amazing. So on that note, guys, God bless you and I'll see you on the next show.
